We are open in full Christmas glory this Saturday, plus 17 Dec and 24 Dec.We will be closed on 31 Dec only, reopening on 7 January.
Alongside all our weekly stalls, you’ll find lots of local artists on Handmade Palace, a different preserve stall each week, smoked food from London Smoke and Cure, cheeses from Capo Caccia and Brindisa, local honey, vintage clothes, natural wines, craft beers, chocolates, and lots of Christmasy things like wreaths and decorations.
These stalls are taking Christmas orders:
• Gill Wing Farm can cater for all your meat needs, Andrew raises turkeys (which you can see in the picture further down), geese, chickens, lamb and pork himself, and the beef comes from a nearby farm in East Sussex, he also has wild venison and more. You need to get an order form on their stall and hand it in. These orders must be in by the 17th of December.
• Veaseys can see to all your seafood needs.
• Get your puddings and cakes at Brett & Bailey, or free-from treats viaElvira’s Secret Pantry or Owl Kitchen.
• Ross is also taking orders for smoked food and there will be cheese and alcohol stalls every week.

Capo Caccia: Cheese & charcuterie
Cheese & cured meats – Capo Caccia Antonio says “we are bringing the smoked ricotta, black pepper pecorino, vegetarian sheep’s milk cheese, red wine salami and Sardinian artichokes plus our lovely range of pasta, bottarga with black olives and carasau bread.”
Olive oil and more – Elia Olive Oil George says “we have a new product: organic green olive tapenade in 180g jars.”
Wine – Wine Scouts Pedro says “We’ll open a serious white wine from Alsace, in France: Riesling Domaine Kumpf et Meyer. ORGANIC. A pale golden-yellow in the glass. On the nose, hints of citrus fruit, red apple and pear. On the palate, concentrated and intense with a compact minerality. Look for notes of quince and green herbs. The finish is crisp and refreshing with a spicy undertone. Yum!”
Beer – Gipsy Hill Brewery Charlie says ” We’ll have our normal range of bottles (Southpaw, Hepcat and Beatnik) plus our new Belgian Dubbel Les Gilles, which is aged for two weeks on sour cherries. We’ll also have brand new t-shirts.”

Bread & patisserie – Claude’s Boulangerie and Patisserie Dwight says “As we had a little selection of seeded we wanted to come up with a new one – we’ve named it the Wheat Seeded. It made of 30% organic rye flour from Shipton Mill, 20% organic Wholemeal flour same supplier. And 50% White flour from France Moule Bie. This is a light brown bread, ideal for breakfast with its seeds (sunflower seeds, linseed). Please come and try it guys a let us know your feedback.”

Brett & Bailey: Xmas puds
Cakes – Brett & Bailey Joe says “We’re back again with our festive fare, all handcrafted just around the corner from the market. Our luxury Christmas puddings – available in two sizes, serving up to five or ten – feature a decadent mix of fruits, including figs and cranberries. We soak them in fine Pedro Ximénez sherry, before folding them into our traditional pudding recipe with plenty of warming spices, and then giving each one a long, slow steam. We then feed them with liberal glugs of aged VSOP calvados, before wrapping them beautifully, all ready for Christmas. Pick up yours on the stall this weekend.
We’re also bringing along our luxury Christmas cakes (including our new Christmas cake loaves), stollen swirls, and a range of seasonal cakes and bakes by the slice including our exquisite ‘White Christmas’ cake with Cointreau, white chocolate and sweetened spiced cranberries; chocolate clementine cake with home-candied peel and a chocolate bourbon ganache; chestnut cheesecake with pomegranate molasses and a dusting of fine organic cocoa; apple and salted caramel cake; sticky date cake;double carrot cake; and pumpkin pecan pie.
Also on the stall you’ll find all our usual treats including peanut butter bars, sticky buns, gooey dark chocolate brownies with pecans and white chocolate chunks; and cranberry and clementine cookies. Brambletye – Stein says “A little spell of cold nights… Finally winter is with us, of course it doesn’t feel like that anymore, all but the winter veg is gone, the trees are bare and the mud is real…. it is everywhere.
On top of this the chickens have been given house arrest by the government to prevent bird flu, a life inside for them for 30 days, so very quiet in the orchard.
In the new year we will be pruning every Wednesday until spring with a large group, if a anyone is interested to come and learn and experience the outdoor life please contact us. Have a good weekend.”
Brockmans – Jason says “Apart from not having as much Chard as we would like and a slight reduction on the amount of Spionach we have the very cold weather hasn’t affected us too much. Broccoli and purple Sprouting are worth a special mention as are the Brussel Sprouts though everything is looking good.

Local growing project – Patchwork Farm (a Crystal Palace Transition Town project), selling locally grown food from our community gardens & gluts. Christine says “Now is a really good time to jump in and do a shift at the Patchwork Farm Stall. With the cold weather there’s not much produce coming in at the moment, so it’s a good time to dip your toes in the water (not literally I hope!), learn the ropes and have a chat to some of our lovely customers. The shifts are from 11am until 12.30pm or 12.30 until 2pm, although you’re welcome to stay longer. You’re welcome to bring along a friend or two – the more the merrier!” Email Christine to find out more.
Meat – Gill Wing Farm Meat produced sustainably in East Sussex and Kent. Andrew butchers much of the meat himself – find him on the stall most weeks. Fish – Veasey’s Dan says “This weeks fish – Keep you fins crossed for plenty of fishtonight as it’s been a relatively calm and mild week we should have a good selection of Prime Flat fish and some good sized Wild Sea Bass. We will have some perfect Fresh King Scallops and more of our tasty Kiln Smoked Salmon.

This Saturday’s market promises to be special with stall-holders offering their Christmas wares – so if you’re stuck for present ideas come along and get in the festive mood with the 15-piece Crystal Palace Band playing a selection of traditional carols and Brass Band favourites.
