BID TO PAINT WORLD’S LARGEST LANDSCAPE THIS WEEKEND…AND A SPOOKY SLEEPOVER LATER THIS MONTH
Dulwich Picture Gallery are attempting to set the record for the world’s longest landscape this weekend.
As part of The Big Draw 2016 Dulwich will invite families and drawers of all ages to contribute to the piece with their own personal landscape. Renowned illustrators including Nicholas Allan and Marion Deuchars will also join the challenge, offering their creativity and expertise while adding their own individual styles to sections on the piece.
With help from the public, the Gallery hopes to create a landscape measuring 400 metres, eight times the length of the Gallery building. The striking enfilade will transform into a communal easel with paper running the entire length for participants to make their mark on.
Professional illustrators joining the event include Nicholas Allan, award-winning author and illustrator of over thirty children’s books, Marion Deuchars, whose distinctive, illustrative work has been used by the Royal Mail on commemorative stamps and Yuval Zommer, author and illustrator of The Big Book Of Bugs.
Taking inspiration from the vibrant communities and landmarks of South East London, the event will encourage participants to reflect upon their own personal landscape and unleash their artistic vision. Visitors will be able to choose from a variety of materials and interpret the sights and surroundings of their community through the universal language of drawing.
The event coincides with the Gallery’s new exhibition on the Dutch landscape painter, Adriaen van de Velde, a master of the Dutch Golden Age whose delicate, carefully composed landscapes and exquisite preparatory drawings fuse agricultural landscapes in Holland with mythological Arcadian scenes in Italian settings.

HALLOWEEN SLEEPOVER IN A SPOOKY ART GALLERY……..
Saturday 29 – 30 October 2016: Following the success of Dulwich Picture Gallery’s first children’s sleepover in 2015, Pillows and Paintbrushes returns this Halloween weekend with an eerie night-time adventure for 7-13 year olds.
An exciting line-up of creative activities with a spooky twist will be followed by a sleep like no other in the company of the Gallery’s Old Master paintings.
During the evening children can pay a visit to the Gallery’s very own haunted house and meet a magical sorceress with stories to tell, watch as the Gallery’s 300 year-old paintings are brought to life by mysterious guests and create their own weird and wonderful vintage-style prints. At 11pm it’s time to settle down to sleep in the iconic main gallery.
The following morning includes a healthy breakfast and a screening of a classic family film before the Gallery opens to the public. Children are encouraged to come in fancy dress costume, with a prize for the best-dressed.
