Defend The Ten @defendtheten ask: Were they pushing against themselves?
This amazing piece of tripe has gone through some doors – but not all – in the Herne Hill area.
As regular readers will know it’s the Friends of Carnegie Library, the Friends of Lambeth Libraries, Defend the Ten, library users, library supporters – including the still-missing Robbie Gibson – and others who have campaigned to save Carnegie.
NOT the three Herne Hill ward Labour councillors who have done absolutely nothing about the Carnegie except get up library supporters noses (and, in one case, attend meetings of the secretive Carnegie Community Trust).
Jack Sprat (@Jacqueimo) was the first to send this to News From Crystal Palace with a message for Lambeth Labour: “You’re the ones who ******* shut it in the 1st place you k***s.”
Chris Holt on behalf of Lambeth Green party also sent the same leaflet to News From Crystal Palace:
“As Herne Hill campaigner Matt Reynolds says: “The absence of the word library’ speaks volumes.
“Lambeth Labour closed this library despite feasible plans to keep it open from the then head of libraries Susanna Barnes.
“If they have ‘pushed’ against anyone it is local residents, disregarding their opinions through box-ticking exhibition events instead of meaningful consultation.
“The Greens have listened to residents and defended this library from the outset. “People aren’t going to be taken in by this spin.”
Brixton Buzz headlined their story: “Hilarious Carnegie campaigning leaflet as Lambeth Labour claim to re-open library after local Cllr’s ‘push’.”
Herne Hill ward Labour Cllr Jim Dickson spun: “Great to get latest @HerneHillLabour @DaWNLabour @helenhayes_ news to residents – with message on reopening library!”
Comments on Defend the Ten Twitter include the following exchanges:
Eleanor @ellymitchiner replying to @JimDicksLambeth @HerneHillLabour and 2 others
I’ve not received one of these. How do I see a copy?
sarabredemear @sarabredemear replying to @ellymitchiner @JimDicksLambeth and 3 others
Me neither. Are @LambethLabour no longer even trying to engage w/ voters able to expose guff when they see it?
Eleanor @ellymitchiner Perhaps they just had the one printed to save costs. Obvs I’ve not read yet but sounds like even that was a waste of money #RollOnMay
Would be useful to know what they are saying now in any case. Apparently @ForciaLondon start digging tmrw (Monday – Ed.)…
Richard Baker @bakerpictures replying to @ellymitchiner @JimDicksLambeth and 3 others
This reads like the sort of misleading posturing that only the dim-witted believe is true, a headline lifted from a Breitbart/Bannon manual
David Edwards @_drwe replying to @ellymitchiner @JimDicksLambeth and 3 others
Jim, me neither, what bad luck to run out halfway up the hill. Presume flyer discloses lack of income from GLL, that CCT (Carnegie Community Trust) are anti-gym?
AND THERE’S MORE…….
sarabredemear @sarabredemear replying to @HerneHill81 @LambethLabour and 2 others:
can someone take a pic of the flyer and tweet it so that those of us not worthy of receiving it might have a look? Ta.
Herne Hillian SE24 @HerneHill81 replying to @sarabredemear @defendtheten and 2 others:
Now attached. Sick bags handy?
(This prompted replies from those who hadn’t yet seen the leaflet. News From Crystal Palace has now been sent the rest of the leaflet with the heading ‘Herne Hill Pravda”. The leaflet says: “The library, which is expected to open around Christmas 2017 or January 2018 will be fully staffed (with a mix of librarians and GLL staff).” – Ed.)
Friends of Carnegie @FrndsofCarnegie replied: Thanks. One feels like Alice gone through the looking glass 2 a parallel world where everything is reversed. We’ll be refuting every untruth
sarabredemear @sarabredemear responded: Interesting. “fully staffed” by who? [email protected]_UK bods in t shirts? Any connection to local area beyond receiving pay check? @JimDicksLambeth
Aran Lewis @aranmlewis posted: Bleurgh. Lambeth councillors pose proudly in front of the library they closed for no reason and left to rot a year and a half ago.
Herne Hillian SE24 @HerneHill81: Latest Orwellian doublespeak from @LambethLabour
Poppy @Poppy_Hasted: And, who pushed to close our library @LambethLabour? Oh yes, YOU DID. Council Elections next year and we WON’T forget.
The leaflet also claimed: “The council is working with Herne Hill residents group the Carnegie Community Trust to transfer ownership of the building to the community…..”
To which Kim Lewis @Kim_hLewis replying to @Juan_Zero1010 @A_Holmesian and 4 others said: ‘Working with Herne Hill resident group Carnegie Community Trust’ means a group of 5 local people, not a group representing local community.”
