REMEMBRANCE DAY – MORE HEROES NAMES FOUND

MORE THAN 50 new names of soldiers, sailors, airmen and others with Upper Norwood connections who died in the First World War have been uncovered following changes to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.
 
They include a surgeon, a musician, and a blacksmith’s mate with ages ranging from 17 to 49.
 
The latest information includes more names from Gipsy Hill, Queen’s Road (now Queen Mary Road), Farquhar Road, Maberley Road, Church Road, several names from the old area of Norwood New Town and three names from Westow Hill – given as Weston Hill on the CWGC website. Some of the names here may have lived in the same road as you, some in the same house.
