The win was announced  at a ceremony at the Telegraph’s offices in Buckingham Palace Road, London. The shortlisted venues were picked in July by a panel of expert judges and a team of family judges visited each venue anonymously over the summer holidays to choose the winner. Janet Vitmayer, Director of the Horniman Museum and Gardens, said: ‘We welcome thousands of families each year, and our aim is not only to make their visits rich and enjoyable, but also to help foster a lifelong love of the arts and culture in our younger visitors. “To be recognised by families themselves for this award is the greatest prize.’ More about the Horniman Museum and Gardens. The community organisers are individuals who will work in the community around SE20 to bring people together, listen to their ideas, build networks and support people to tackle the local issues which are important to them. “COs do not bring a message or an agenda. “Instead they listen to people actively, systematically, one-to-one and in groups, building trust, respect and relationships. “Their role is to explore the loves, concerns, hopes and visions of local people, to ignite the impulse to act, and to support that action to be as effective as it can be. “This is localism in action, at its very best. In a letter to NFCP Cllr Wayne Lawlor (Lab South Norwood) says  “Many residents across Croydon North are very unhappy with the state of Croydon’s streets. “People complain that the streets are visibly dirty and that the refuse collection and street cleaning services provided by the council are not meeting their expectations. “Croydon North MP Steve Reed has set up an independent commission to identify the scale of the problem, and to make proposals for how the situation can be improved. “The Croydon North Streets Commission is an independent investigation into the state of Croydon’s streets, which will gather the views of local residents and businesses about waste and street cleaning services across the borough. “Once evidence has been gathered, the commission will present its recommendations for improving these services to the council. “Services the commission will review include street cleaning, refuse collection, bulky items disposal, fly tipping, abandoned vehicles and commercial waste. “We want to get as many people as possible along to provide evidence, views and suggestions about the state of the streets in Croydon North. “We would ideally like representatives from community organisations, faith groups, residents’ associations and similar to come and present evidence on behalf of their organisation, but individuals with particular evidence are welcome to come and present written, verbal or photographic evidence  Hearing dates and locations are as follows: Thursday 31st October – Thornton Heath 6.30pm – 9pm Venue: Parchmore Methodist Church, 55 Parchmore Rd, Thornton Heath CR7 8LY Saturday 9th November – West Croydon 10.30am – 1pm Venue: Croydon Voluntary Action, 82 London Road, CR0 2TB Thursday 14th November – South Norwood 6.30pm – 9pm Venue: South Norwood Baptist Church, 2 Oliver Avenue SE25 6TY Residents can also submit their views, evidence and suggestions online at the website for the Streets Commission, which is at http://croydonnorthstreetscommission.com.
