SPECIAL CENTRAL HILL TENANTS AND RESIDENTS MEETING TONIGHT / ‘FIRST DIRECT CONSULTATION’ OVER REDEVELOPMENT PLANS AT CENTRAL HILL MEETING TOMORROW
Tonight sees a special general meeting of the estate’s tenants and residents association to re-elect the committee following Jean Haley stepping down from the chair. The meeting at the Lunham Road day centre starts at 7pm.
A post from the Central Hill Estate TRA posted by Save Central Hill Community says:
A special general meeting for the Central Hill estate tenants residents association (TRA) has been called.
This will take place at 7pm on Monday 8th June 2015. The meeting will take place at the Lunham Road day centre.
Residents are strongly urged to come to this meeting to hear what the Lambeth’s plans are for the TRA and resident participation in these deeply uncertain times.
Lambeth have now agreed to set up a regeneration ‘steering group’ to enable formal communication between residents and council officers, it is our understanding that this will be separate from the TRA and is to be chaired by an independent person.
However – they have not made clear whether they are recruiting for this group at the meeting on 8th June.
The legally required notice has not been sent out to residents by post and Lambeth have instead asked the TRA committee to do a leaflet drop of the estate – all 470 homes!
The notice for the meeting reads:
“We are calling a special general meeting to get residents interested in what goes on the estate to consider standing for the TRA committee.
If you are interested in joining the committee come along to the special general meeting on Monday 8th June at 7pm in Lunham Road day centre.
There is a separate process for residents just interested in the regeneration proposals for the estate and the council will be recruiting residents for the steering group but the TRA will concentrate on the day to day matters that affect the estate.”
Tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) meeting, also at the Lunham Road day centre at 7pm, will see what is being described by the Save Central Hill Community campaign as the first direct consultation with residents not undertaken on a ‘drop in’ basis following Lambeth council moves to demolish part – or all – of the estate.
Described as a regeneration ‘steering group’ elections and public meeting with Lambeth officers / councillors, campaigners say: “This is important as prior to this Lambeth have followed the usual pattern of speaking with individuals and not writing anything down!
“This meeting will be a chance to hear residents views, questions and ideas and for this to be in a group setting which can be recorded.
“It is unfortunate that Lambeth have scheduled the regeneration meeting for the Tuesday – this may be a purposeful choice to divide residents as they may hope not all will make it to two meetings…most importantly we are hoping for a good turn out on the Tuesday.
“All supporters and interested parties are welcome to attend and show their support or ask questions themselves.”
