HAYNES LANE MARKET’S Harriet Press will have her head in the clouds in August – when she takes part in a sponsored parachute jump for the Demelza children’s hospice.
Harriet, who sells crystals at the market off Westow Street, Crystal Palace, said: “I know someone who works as a volunteer at the Little Ones charity shop in Penge High Street.”
Demelza are the main beneficiary of Little Ones, which is diagonally across from the Homebase store, but Harriet had never heard of Demelza before.
“As I lost my daughter 14 years ago and didn’t get any support or help it’s what made me choose that charity.”
Her daughter Becky died in Mayday hospital, Croydon and was just two hours old.
Harriet had already staged one event at the Phoenix centre on Westow Street to support Demelza when they emailed her with details of the sponsored parachute jump and she put her name forward.
Has she ever done a parachute jump before? “No – and I’m scared of heights!” she said.
Harriet, who has two grown-up sons, Ben aged 22 and Daniel, aged 28, is organisng a second event at the Phoenix centre on Saturday June 8th to raise funds for the Demelza children’s hospice. The Utopia Crystals holistic event runs from 11am to 5pm. Adults £6, children under 16 free.
If you wish to sponsor Harriet she can be contacted at the market (Saturdays 10am to 6pm); Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays 11am to 5pm)
