RECORD-BREAKING CROWDS ATTEND NINTH CRYSTAL PALACE OVERGROUND FESTIVAL
Organisers of the ninth Crystal Palace Overground Festival are calling this year’s event the most successful yet with around 10,000 people attending the festival over its five days.
The popular community culture and arts festival featured a mix of live music, film, food and drink, theatre, spoken word, kids’ activities and a vintage event celebrating Crystal Palace’s heritage and vintage culture among others.
The annual event, run almost entirely by volunteers started on Wednesday 24 June and ended on Sunday 28 June.
“It was a great success and every year we go from strength to strength”, said festival director, Noreen Meehan. “This is thanks to our team of brilliant volunteers, our local businesses supporting us, public donations, and this year, Big Lottery and Heritage Lottery funding meant we could continue to deliver an even better event.”
She said: “Each year has been very special but some personal highlights for me this year were the musicians of Crystal Palace including Metamono, Moine Dubh and Brother G and The Trouble performing an eclectic, magical set of gigs.
“We also had a huge range of artistic and cultural activities going on over the five days – from a Heritage Lottery Fund project about The Crystal Palace created in partnership with The Brit School, Emergency Exit Arts and the London Metropolitan Archives to local pubs and venues pulling out all the stops.
“We also had wonderful performers in both park events, Westow Park and Vintage up the Palace in Crystal Palace Park. Just too many to mention but thank you to all who performed, volunteered, sponsored and supported it – and thank you to our fabulous visitors of course!”
Watch out for more festival news in the coming months about plans for the organisation’s future events and how to get involved.
