POLICE WERE called to a punch-up in Westow Park yesterday afternoon after drunks began fighting amongst themselves.
An eyewitness told News From Crystal Palace: “At the height of it there were three police cars and two meat wagons. “They carted off at least three people and probably more – they were all out of their tree. “Two of them were so drunk they were fighting each other in the street.”
The incident, which lasted about an hour, took place near the park’s Church Road entrance close to the top of Fox Hill.
“There’s always a regular crew that sit on the bench by the boules court – they’re no issue” said the eyewitness. “This lot yesterday were a lot younger. “It was all very unpleasant.
“You get a lot of tourists along here going to the language schools and the hotel. “It was embarrassing.
“One of the women they took away was resisting. “She kept kicking the police car. “She was really fighting back.
“Another woman was giving a man the police had arrested his can of Stella Artois back.”
And a park user said: “There’s been a noticeable increase in the number of boozers using the top end of the park. “They’re not the usual faces who sit by the boules court. “They occupy some of the benches on the path which leads down to the Coxwell Road entrance at the back of Sainsbury’s.
“One woman yesterday was asleep on top of the new table bench that’s been put by the boules court.”
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called at 14.39 hrs on Wednesday 24 July to reports of a disturbance in Weston Park, SE19. “Police attended and arrested one male for immigration offences and one male for obstructing police. “Both men have been taken to south London police stations.”
