PHONE FRAUDSTERS SAY THEY ARE FROM THE COUNCIL
A concerned Bromley resident has contacted staff at Lewisham council to report an attempted fraud incident.
The gentleman in question received a phone call from a lady claiming to work with Lewisham council, said a press spokesperson.
“She offered a reduction of £400 from his yearly council tax bill and band change refunds backdated to 1998 in return for him setting up a refundable direct debit for £65 per month.
“The victim became suspicious and questioned the caller, who then hung up on him. “The matter has been handed to the police who are investigating.”
Lewisham and Bromley residents are being urged to pass this message on in an effort to protect people from criminals and raise awareness of these types of attempts to obtain money illegally.
