Fish from Veaseys: Did you know Veaseys go out on their own boat? (pic above) Dan’s brother-in-law, fisherman Chris says “Warm water, calm seas and short tides mean a relatively quiet week this week bringing a small amount of our seasonal catch for this time of year mostly being our cod, bass, plaice and Dover soles.
Our cod season began a few weeks back and it’s great to see plenty of adult fish in the channel. Next week’s weather brings stronger winds which mean plenty of sea bass for the end of the week as their food gets churned up in the water and they feed very close to the shore. Look out for our line caught and drift netted sea bass”

Meat of the week from Jacob’s Ladder: 20% off Jayne & Michael’s own, grass fed, native, biodynamic lamb. Perfect for roasting now that we have an autumnal nip in the air. Farmer Jayne will be on the stall, so if you have any questions, you can ask her directly. Speaking of autumn, they’ll have plenty of forequarter meat available – featherblade, chuck, shin, brisket – perfect for slow cooking. Jayne says “Do you make your own stock? We have bones available, but we get asked a lot at this time of the year. We are limited because we only butcher one animal a week so just let us know if you would like any reserved for you.”
SE19+ grown produce from Patchwork Farm: tomatoes, rocket, purslane and chard from St John’s. Fartichokes (heehee) not quite ready yet, coming soon! Do you grow fruit & veg? Bring in your gluts to sell, donate or swap.
Imogeni: Homemade jam, jellies & chutneys.
Brambletye: Farmer Stein says “Well, we finished picking pears yesterday apart from the high ones, they are almost ripe and already very sweet. Our most tastefull apple the Collina is coming to the end for this season. Our next gem is Evita hard, crispy and amazing balance of sweetness and acidity. Yesterday I put on all my bee gear and spent all afternoon harvesting honey and getting the bees ready for winter. As with the pullet eggs, they are almost over as the pullets are growing up and becoming adult hens but we should have them for another few weeks.”
