LAMBETH LIBRARY PLANS “BECOME A NATIONAL LAUGHING STOCK” SAY CAMPAIGNERS – HIGHLIGHTED IN PRIVATE EYE MAGAZINE
Lambeth’s “appalling” library plans have made it into cartoon form – in the latest issue of Private Eye magazine.
Under the title ‘Gym-Trification’ a two-deck cartoon strip in its latest issue number 1403 page 23 covers the recent full council meeting.
The cartoon strip’s existence has been highlighted by Friends of Lambeth Libraries who say it shows the “arrogance and ignorance” displayed at the council meeting on 18 November.
“They put it into pictures, so even a Labour councillor can understand it” say FOLL in a press release headed: “Lambeth library plans become a national laughing stock.”
“Private Eye focused on the sheer stupidity of Lambeth’s make-libraries-into-gyms idea in issue No. 1403 | (p.35)” they add.
UPPER NORWOOD LIBRARY SURVEY
Next week, from Monday 30th November to Saturday 5th December (during library opening hours), Upper Norwood joint library will be conducting a survey which will “help shape the future of your local library in Lambeth”.
The data collected will contribute to national statistics and may also help the Campaign/Friends of Upper Norwood joint library build a case to increase the statutory funding for the library and to have it considered as the fifth or sixth ‘town centre’ library of Lambeth.
Readers are being asked: “If you didn’t already plan to, please could you visit next week to complete a survey?.
“Please could you also encourage as many others you know to visit and complete a survey?.”
News From Crystal Palace understands the surveys are not available electronically but are a pretty straight-forward use and satisfaction survey which should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete (unless you want to write an essay in the ‘Comments’ section!).
Questions include: What do you think of this library? – with a variety of boxes to tick.
