LAMBETH ARCHIVES: STUDY TO “DETERMINE LONG-TERM SECURITY” SAY COUNCIL – AS THEY EMPLOY MORE CONSULTANTS
A study is underway to determine the long term security of the Lambeth Archives.
Consultants Creative Cultures and Sue McKenzie Consulting Ltd have been appointed to oversee the study and will report back in September.
Lambeth council have commissioned the Lambeth Archives Option Appraisal “to help decide where the best long-term home for the Archives would be” said a council press release.
“Working with local community groups, including historical societies and the Friends of Minet, They aim to find a cost effective option to ensure Lambeth archives is able to improve standards of collection care, maintain its high service to customers and seek to expand its audience reach.”
Cllr Sonia Winifred, Special Projects Lead, responsible for the study, said: “Securing a long term future for the Archives is hugely important. So many seminal moments in history have happened in Lambeth and the Archives are a treasure trove of information about all of it.”
The Archives, currently housed in the Minet Library building in Knatchbull Road SE5, includes thousands of documents, artefacts and photographs from Lambeth’s history.
Whether you want to trace your family history, a house history, discover the origins of your neighbourhood or look at the records of Lambeth Council, the Archives have all the information available.

The Archives currently remain open, despite Minet Library being closed. The Archives are open to the public every day other than Wednesdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Monday 1pm to 8pm
Tuesday 10am to 6pm
Thursday 10am to 6pm
Friday 10am to 1pm
Saturday 9am to 5pm
