LABOUR COUNCILLORS ‘WATCH’ PALACE MATCH – IN COUNCIL CHAMBER
Upper Norwood Labour councillors Pat Ryan and John Wentworth have been caught ‘watching’ Crystal Palace’s game against Everton on an iPad during Monday night’s full council meeting.
The Croydon Guardian reports they were spotted from the public gallery as the council debated a Conservative opposition motion criticising plans to close Fairfield Halls for two years during refurbishment.
Coun Wentworth told the Croydon Guardian he had been “momentarily checking the score” during Monday night’s debate.
Coun Ryan apologised on Tuesday morning, telling the Croydon Guardian: “It was fleeting look at the score and that was the end of it.”
The report by Chris Baynes adds: “iPads and mobile phones are a common sight in the council chamber, although most devices are used to facilitate political spats on Twitter rather than follow sporting action.”
Final score: Everton 1 Palace 1
(Editor’s note: Pat Ryan and John Wentworth have both been asked by News From Crystal Palace for a response which we’ll publish if we get one. Of course, it could have been much worse – they could have been caught watching Arsenal……..)
