Olive oil & more – Mar de Olivos “Hi everyone, I’ll be selling, marinated Spanish olives, extra virgin olive oil from this harvest, olive pate and yummy artisan chocolate made with extra virgin olive oil. Come and have a taste at the stall and if you spend more that £15 you’ll get a free 100ml bottle of extra virgin olive oil.”
Mushroom & cheese – Nicki’s Mushrooms Nicki’s bringing seasonal wild and exotic mushrooms, truffle honey, Comte cheese, rapeseed oils (lemon, rosemary & garlic, chilli and natural) as well as plum and rhubarb vinegars.

Lunch – Return to Shashamane Emilia has sent through her vegan menu: – COLD – chickpea salad with wakame seaweed – kidney beans with cardamom seeds and fresh tarragon – butter beans toasted with seeds and herb – mexican cabbage salad with herbs, chillies and onion – served with polenta chips with rosemary – coriander chimmichurri sauce & brown rice salad with linseed, basil, pomegranates and rocket. HOT – butter beans puree – spicy sauce with cayenne pepper – lentil tikka masala stew.

Cakes – Brett & Bailey “Spring is in the air and the Brett & Bailey Speckled egg cake has hatched! Crack open the duck egg blue buttercream, speckled with chocolate, to find our richest chocolate sponge oozing with layers of golden caramel. Find it on the stall alongside Rhubarbra Streisand; double carrot cake; pistachio gateau with creamy organic honey frosting, crushed pistachios and flecks of bee pollen; citrus chiffon cake; and a baked white chocolate cheesecake topped with fragrant passion fruit pulp. We’ll also have blueberry and cardamom cake topped with walnut streusel; indulgent dark chocolate brownies; both peanut butter cookies AND peanut butter bars; cardamom knots; semlor; sticky buns; and more shortbread treacle tart.
Early birds can get one of our last two jars of scrumptious apricot and vanilla jam but don’t worry there’s also lemon curd and award-winning marmalade. Need to buy a whole cake? Order from the Brett & Bailey online shop by Wednesday night and we’ll have your order freshly-baked and ready to collect from our stall on the Saturday.

Brockmans – Jason says “Due to the encouragement and positive feedback from customers last year we have made significant efforts to offer a wide range of potted herbs and vegetables for sale. This week we will have Horseradish, Thyme and Wild Garlic. Also – Oranges; Kale (4 varieties); Cox, Gala and Braeburn Apples; Beetroot; Leeks; Chard (limited); Purple Sprouting Broccoli; Savoy, Jan King, Red, Tundra and White Cabbages; Carrots; 3 Varieties of potato; Onions; Mushrooms; Blood Oranges; Sweet Potatoes.”
Local growing project – Patchwork Farm (a Crystal Palace Transition Town project), selling locally grown food from our community gardens & gluts.
Meat – Gill Wing Farm Andrew butchers much of the meat himself – find him on the stall most weeks. He says, “Hello, this week all the normal favourite chicken whole portions, breast, thighs and drums – Sussex beef – topside – sirloin – minced – steak – triple minced, sausages – wild garlic – plain and chips, bacon back and streaky and thank you I have never been so welcome in a market like I am with you lot, it’s not really a market it’s more like a big family.” We couldn’t agree more.

Crystal Palace Overground Festival – St Patrick’s Day fundraiser rave up in the Anerley Town Hall, Friday 17 March. DJs inc Maxi Jazz (!), Lol Hammond (Drum Club/ Vertigo Films), Chris Coco (Melodica Recordings), DJ Prime Cut (Scratch Perverts). This event helps to keep the festival itself free for all on the day.

The Foodbank – collection point at the market every week. They currently need washing up liquid, clothes washing powder, tinned carrots, UHT custard and tinned meat (not pork). Latest drop off (Tuesday 14 March) 36 kilos. Total donated so far 1266.7kg.

ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL
Isambard Kingdom Brunel is the subject of tonight’s talk (Thursday March 16th) to Norwood Society local history group at Upper Norwood library.
Local History Talks are held on the 3rd Thursday of the Month at 7.30pm at the Upper Norwood Library, Westow Hill SE19 1TJ. Refreshments available. No charge but we ask for a donation of about £3.
CARNEGIE LIBRARY MEETINGS
The Friends of Carnegie Library are holding their annual meeting at St. Saviour’s church hall, Herne Hill Rd tonight (Thursday 16th March.) The meeting starts at 6.30pm.
Committee member elections and reports on the year will be followed by discussion on the way forward to restore the Carnegie library to full operation for the community – taking into account that GLL’s planning application to develop a gym at the Carnegie has now been approved by Lambeth council.
After the Friends AGM, there will also be the first AGM of the Carnegie Library Association (carnegielibraryassociation.org.uk), the charitable trust supported by the Friends and Carnegie user groups to manage the library building.
