Summer on the Nature Trail
Saturday 16 July, 11am – 12.30pm
Join us on the Horniman Nature Trail for a family friendly walk and fun activities to discover the insects, animals and plants that live there in the summer. Suitable for children aged 5+.

Big Wednesdays: The Big Butterfly Count
Wednesday 27 July, 11am – 3.30pm
Join us for a day celebrating beautiful butterflies! Take part in the Big Butterfly Count with bug expert Richard Jones, meet Mr Horniman as he takes you on a tour of his gardens and make some butterfly art and craft.
Free. Everyone welcome.
Big Wednesdays: Horniman Favourites
Wednesday 3 August, 11am – 3.30pm
Join us for a day of the Horniman’s favourite summer activities and events. See a Punch and Judy show, create art and craft, meet the owls from JAMBS Owls and play some outdoor giant games.

Pond Dipping

Explore what wildlife lives in our Nature Trail pond in this guided interactive session. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Only suitable for children aged 5+ years. Not suitable for prams or pushchairs.

Search for creepy crawlies and bugs that live on the Nature Trail. Suitable for children aged 3+ years. Not suitable for prams or pushchairs.

Family Batwalk

Join this guided walk to learn about South East London’s local bats and find them in the Horniman Gardens using bat detectors. Suitable for children aged 7+ years.

Exhibition
Dinosaurs: Monster Families
Until Sunday 30 October
Discover the fascinating world of dinosaurs and their young in this family-focused interactive exhibition. Dinosaurs: Monster Families shows how dinosaurs looked after their eggs, nests and babies. Meet ‘Baby Louie’, a cast of the nearly-complete skeleton of a dinosaur hatchling; dig in the discovery pit; touch a real dinosaur leg bone and come face-to-face with T-Rex’s relative – a life-size Tarbosaurus skeleton cast. Have fun at the interactive exploration stations, and enjoy an exciting programme of dinosaur-themed events and activities to complement the exhibition.
Alongside bird and crocodile specimens from the Horniman’s collection, visitors can also see a cast of an extinct Elephant Bird egg, one of which was famously found by Horniman patron Sir David Attenborough in Madagascar in 1960.
