Meat by Jacob’s Ladder Farms: 20% off organic beef steaks. Reared on Jayne & Michael’s own farm, they are from 100% grass fed, native breed Sussex. Jayne says she know it’s not barbecue weather but it’s very comforting, quick and easy to help combat wet, cloudy days! Jacob’s Ladder are a collective of tiny organic and biodynamic farms in East Sussex and Kent that farm using traditional methods with rare breed animals, and come together to sell at Crystal Palace Food Market, the only market that Jacob’s Ladder now attend. Cured sliced meats from The Charcuterie Board: Oh no! Owen tells me there’s a crackling crisis! “A bunch of greedy punters munched all the crackling we made this week, and we’re out until next Saturday. Sorry. We do however have loads more sobrasada, which was such a hit last week. Squidgier than nduja, not quite as fiery, totally delicious in every way. Pies and ham galore, as ever, and maybe the best batch of pastrami we’ve done all year. Come and get it!” The Charcuterie Board supplies British cured meats from Moons Green & Native Breeds.
Cheese from Blackwoods Cheese: Dave says “St James is back this week, end of season raw Sheeps milk cheese from Cumbria. We may also have a few Edmund Tews matured by our friends at Neals Yard Dairy.” Blackwood’s Cheese are an artisan cheesemonger based in Brockley, who use organic milk from Kent, and also have a selection of cheeses from Neal’s Yard.
Herbs, flowering plants & teas from Gipsy Hill Herbs: Sarah tells me this week she’s got three new teas in. “Night time tea: a soothing, relaxing floral blend of chamomile, lime flower, rose petals and passion flower to help promote a restful sleep. PMT tea: dandelion, yarrow and lemon balm combine to help relieve the symptoms that curse us every month. Pick-me-Up Tea: a totally delicious lemony treat with a hint of fragrant damask rose to help lift your spirits and make everything look a little bit rosier.” Want to recycle your old plant pots? Please return your plastic pots to me for recycling! (Clean of course). All plants grown with minimal environmental impact on a small independent nursery in Wallington. Follow Sarah on twitter – @GipsyHillHerbs.
Sustainably caught fish from Veasey’s: Dan’s spooky fish news is “Not a lot has changed since last week, apart from the fact the weather has been pretty poor. We will have a similar supply of fish as to last week so expect more cod, sea bass, crab, lobster and all flat fish such as brill, plaice, soles and turbot.
