FROM PLANT TO PLATE – GARDENING AND COOKERY WORKSHOPS
“Plant to Plate” – a series of gardening and cookery workshops to learn about growing your own food and healthy cooking on a budget – are being held in the area.
The “Plant” part is about planning, planting and harvesting in an active garden with friendly gardeners and learning things like sowing super salads and summer herbs, growing edible borders, protecting crops from pests naturally and composting and recycling in the garden to save cash. By the end, you could “have a go” at food gardening yourself.
The first one was being held yesterday (Sunday) at St Johns church Auckland Road. Dates for the rest of the garden workshops are: 5 July – 19 July – 16 August – 13 September –
27 September – 11 October – 25 October – all from 2 to 4pm at St John’s Garden.
The “Plate” part of the project will be five budget cookery demonstrations challenging different cooks to prepare healthy meals for four for under £10 using food bought in our community, and including food from community gardens, much of which will be grown in the gardening workshops (hopefully).
The Crystal Palace Transition Town project is being funded by Croydon council,
