Celeriac and blue cheese soup….
Happy New Year! Did you make any resolutions? Healthy eating is usually high up the list. If you’re thinking of expanding your vegetable repertoire, feel free to ask our veggie sellers for advice. To start with there’s celeriac. It’s the root of a celery plant and is delicious roasted, mashed or in a soup. It’s in season now and is great value too. This week’s recipe features this ugly duckling – Celeriac and Blue Cheese Soup.
Fish: Wow, it’s been stormy. As well as the floods & damage to houses & trees, farmers and fishermen have been trying to work in this weather. This does mean extremely low stocks on the Veaseys stall, in fact early on Friday morning they weren’t sure they would have any stock at all. Such is the way of super fresh fish – gold star to Dan & the boys!
Some of what’s on the slab this week…dressed crab £6.50 each, Eastbourne cod fillet £18kg, Manx kippers £1.60 each, naturally smoked haddock £16.95kg, whole seabass £16kg, whole bream £14kg, salmon fillet £22.50kg, smoked mackerel fillets £3 per pack, smoked cod roe £2.60/100g, Cornish mussels £6kg, Cornish rock oysters £1.25 each or 6 for £7, sushi quality tuna £3.25/100g, swordfish loin £2.60/100g, monkfish goujons £2.50/100g, whole smoked mackerel £5 each.
Hot food: Kalum & Sue from Margosa with Sri Lankan chicken curry served with rice & daal, or rice & daal for veggies. Plus hot vegetable soup with a kick.
Colin will be there with his artisan bread and a selection of Demi Pastisser cakes.
Meat of the week: 20% off organic sirloin steaks, from pasture fed Hereford cattle raised on Romshed Farm near Sevenoaks.
Patchwork Farm: Patchwork Preserves jam, locally grown squash and pumpkins, plus whatever is brought by local growers on the day.
If you fancy getting out of the rain, Cafe Thing do great coffee, plus toasted bagels and cakes.
Mootown won’t be joining us this week. If you’re in need of a cheese fix, I’m sure Manish at Good Taste on Westow Hill will be able to help. He has a great selection of blue cheeses that would go nicely in our recipe of the week.
