CRYSTAL PALACE OVERGROUND FESTIVAL TO TAKE YEAR OFF IN 2016
Crystal Palace Overground Festival organisers have confirmed that there will be no festival in 2016.
The annual event – which takes place at Crystal Palace in London – has outgrown the main outdoor park space at Westow Park and organisers are planning to take the main event to the much larger Crystal Palace park in 2017.
The move will allow the festival organisers to safely welcome the growing number of visitors to the festival since the main park event was first established five years ago.
Festival director Noreen Meehan said: “Moving to Crystal Palace park will involve a change of direction for the festival’s planning, organising and funding. So we are taking a year out to make sure we allot enough time to take on the challenge and to secure the funds.”
The focus this year will be on ensuring the festival team and infrastructure is robust and ready for the challenge of expansion. Fundraising events are planned and there will be a few surprises along the way for the whole community to enjoy.
Throughout 2016 the festival team will continue to support the local groups that run some of the regular festival fringe events – such as the children’s sports event – and are currently seeking volunteers to get involved and help.
Additional trustees are being recruited to enhance the skills and experience of the current festival board.
