COUNCIL BY-ELECTION RESULTS
Two Southwark council by-elections were held on May 5th – both caused by councilors resigning after becoming MPs.
Labour held College ward where Dulwich and West Norwood MP Helen Hayes had resigned.
Helen Hayes told News From Crystal Palace: “It was a huge privilege to serve College ward residents as one of their Labour councillors for the past six years.
“I am delighted that Catherine Rose was elected as a new Labour councillor for College ward on 5 May. “Catherine has a great track record of local campaigning, and will be an excellent local councillor.
“I look forward to continue working with Catherine and Cllrs Andy Simmons and Jon Hartley to serve College ward residents as their Member of Parliament.”
Southwark Labour website says Catherine Rose has considerable experience of community engagement after 15 years working in the public sector, but she is most proud of her recent role, as the voluntary chair of a parent led campaign for more secondary school places for East Dulwich.
Catherine was also spokesperson for the Southwark SPACE campaign, which helped secure a new large secondary school on the site of the former Dulwich hospital.
Catherine currently works as a caseworker, dealing with a range of issues facing College residents. She chairs of St John’s and St Clement’s Primary School PTFA and has lived close to Goose Green since 1999.
