CHEMISTS WARNING OVER ONLINE PHARMACY LETTERS
An Upper Norwood chemists are warning people to be wary of a leaflet sent to them by an online pharmacy which offers repeat prescriptions.
A notice in the window of the chemists – Sefgrove on Westow Hill – says: “Some patients may mistakenly think that your local surgery is promoting their services. “This is not the case.” – and says people are under no obligation to receive their NHS medicines from the online pharmacy.
The leaflets from the online company say: “If your doctor’s practice is shown below, you can register for our practice today.”
It then names Upper Norwood group practice (Church Road); Auckland surgery, Auckland Road; and the Park Practice on Anerley Road among others. The leaflet then states: “Your own doctor has not given us your name and address and has not approved this communication.”
Shinali McCusker of Sefgrove chemists says: “My problem with this company is that it’s not face-to-face. “You can’t talk to a pharmacist.
“They don’t explain fully and clearly how it works and they are writing directly to the patient using their names and addresses – through what means I don’t know because I don’t share data.
“At Christmas time they messed up and couldn’t deliver to patients because their system went down. “All pharmacies were asked by the NHS to step in and help people.”
