CARNEGIE: LAMBETH LAMBASTED BY CONSERVATIVE OPPOSITION LEADER
In a statement to News From Crystal Palace, Lambeth’s Conservative opposition leader Cllr Tim Briggs says he remembers Cllr Jim Dickson saying at the last planning meeting that work on the Carnegie basement would cost in the region of £700,000.
“Now it is projected to run to up to £3 million.
“£4 million was the amount Labour councillors wanted to save by sacrificing our libraries.
“Labour councillors’ plan on libraries, as with everything else, ends up costing the same residents that they insisted on ignoring, then they swan around like pious hypocrites and blame someone else for their failures, rather than taking responsibility for the chaos.
“The Brixton Blog story says the council has to ‘find’ another £90 million. “Actually £55 million is the Labour-Lambeth spin.
“But the reality is that had Labour got rid of the staff they got rid of last year in 2009 after the economic crash, they would have saved £225 million, and there would have been no need to cut any services.
“The Conservative group found £13.7 million for this year from the budget, including £2 million extra from that for preventative NHS and adult and social care, which Labour voted down, instead cutting the NHS budget by £1 million.
“People need to wake up and understand that Labour-Lambeth are just useless.”
