Why re-open The Ship?
By funding community projects, and providing an attractive family orientated venue / community space with entertainment, food and drink, the plan is to encourage local people to spend more of their free time in South Norwood and as result attract other high quality local businesses into the area. The ultimate aim is to kick-start improvement of South Norwood, help local people, and to protect pubs, which are part of our nation’s heritage
Asset of Community Value
The pub is the first in the borough of Croydon to benefit from an Asset of Community Value listing, which gives it added protection and allows “Save The Ship” the right to make an offer to purchase, if and when the pub is sold.
Save The Ship is also fighting to Save Other Pubs in the area
The campaign is also supporting local residents in objecting to planning applications in connection with the Portmanor pub, and through its trading arm, Croydon Community Tavern, has nominated The Portmanor as an Asset of Community Value. (Source: Save The Ship campaign)
