£2,000 FINE FOR PLAYING LOUD MUSIC
A Camberwell woman has been fined £2,000 by Camberwell Green magistrates for playing loud music – and ordered to pay the full amount within 28 days.
Southwark council issued warnings and a notice last year, yet the problem persisted and was eventually witnessed by a patrolling noise officer who heard loud music being played in the early hours of the morning to the dismay of her neighbours.
As part of Southwark’s zero tolerance approach to noise nuisances, the team patrols the borough from 7am Friday to 2.30 am Tuesday, and then 7am to 2.30am the following morning on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Recent changes in the law means that council tenants could face losing your home if found guilty of noise nuisances by a court. Anyone affected by noise should contact Southwark’s noise team on 0207 525 5777. (Source: Southwark council press release)
